ATTENTION for Private, Parochial and/or Technical High Schools

A parent/guardian must sign one (1)  Records Release Form per school to forward application materials including school records, and Teacher and/or Counselor recommendations. A release may be included in the school’s application however, the WPS Records Release Form is also requested. Students should approach teachers directly with paperwork required including an addressed and stamped envelope. Completed recommendations are sent directly to the school and not returned to the student. All forms should be provided to Dag staff for completion at least 10 school days before the application deadline. 

ATTENTION! High schools other than LHHS 

A parent/guardian must sign and return a WPS Student Withdrawal form generated by the counseling clerk, Jackie Roudie (203-294-3710), in late May or June once a student’s final choice of school is made. WPS and DHMS will forward academic and medical records to the receiving high school when the Records Release Form and WPS Student Withdrawal form are completed and received by Ms. Roudie, Clerk, Dag Counseling office. 

SSAT 

The SSAT is a standardized test used to enroll in some independent schools, https://ssat.org/. Please refer to the individual school webpage for admission requirements. A  Records Release Form must be completed for each independent school students apply to for admissions.

Throughout the year your child will be working with his/her school counselor to begin planning for their future. All Dag students will utilize Naviance Succeed, an online program that provides students with tools to explore learning styles, career interests and identify goals. We encourage families to explore the Naviance website. Your child can access their Naviance account using their school issued user name and the password that is used to log into the computers at Dag. We are looking for your participation in Career 101. This is a volunteer program designed to give students the opportunity to learn about different jobs and careers. Presenters will meet with a small group of students during their lunch wave for approximately thirty minutes. The goal is to inform students about your career, sharing educational background, how the occupation is connected to the courses students take in middle and high school, and your daily job functions. The hope is to get them excited about the career opportunities available to them.

From the CT State Department of Education Public Act No. 11-135, Section 2(j)

"For the school year commencing July 1, 2012, and each school year thereafter, each local and regional board of education shall create a student success plan for each student enrolled in a public school, beginning in grade six. Such student success plan shall include a student’s career and academic choices in grades six to twelve, inclusive."

 

In Wallingford, The Student Success Plan (SSP) is a comprehensive, individualized student centered plan that addresses each student’s personal needs and interests supported by school counselors, teachers, staff, parents, administration and the community.
